Sarkari welfare schemes for construction workers

Every scheme below is verified against an official government source — what you get, who qualifies, what documents to keep ready, and the official link. For masons, electricians, plumbers, painters, welders, daily-wage and migrant workers. Free to apply. No agents needed.

21 schemes · all verified36 States & UTs coveredUpdated 25 July 2026Official links only

Start here — three things first

Register with your State BOCW boardFor construction workers this is usually the most important route — each State board has its own benefits. Use the State finder below. Keep the membership renewed.
Make your e-Shram cardFree, for unorganised workers aged 16–59 not in EPFO/ESIC/Govt-NPS. It is a record and a gateway — it does NOT automatically give BOCW or insurance benefits.
Ask your bank about PMSBY & PMJJBYAccident and life cover for a few rupees a year, enrolled only through your own bank with auto-debit consent. Confirm nomination and policy status with the bank.

By your trade

Mason / Rajmistri: also check PM Vishwakarma — mason is a notified trade (separate from BOCW; you may need both registrations).
Electrician / Plumber: BOCW applies only where your work falls in the State board's qualifying construction work. Note: electrician and plumber are NOT among the notified PM Vishwakarma trades per the recorded official source. Check e-Shram, NCS, skill routes, PMSBY/PMJJBY, and MUDRA/PMEGP for self-employment finance.
Pregnant or lactating woman worker: check PMMVY early — e-Shram card holders are a listed category; pregnancy registration and health-check conditions apply. An Anganwadi worker or ASHA can help with the official process.
Worker or parent aged 70+: check the AB PM-JAY senior-citizen route — age 70+ in Aadhaar is the core condition per the NHA FAQ, with Aadhaar e-KYC.

Common questions

Does an e-Shram card automatically give BOCW board benefits?
No. e-Shram is a national record and gateway for unorganised workers — it does not by itself enrol you in your State BOCW board or in any insurance. For construction-worker benefits you usually need separate, active registration with your State/UT BOCW welfare board, kept renewed.
What is a BOCW / labour card and why does it matter?
Each State/UT runs a Building & Other Construction Workers (BOCW) welfare board funded by a cess on construction. Registered workers can get the board's benefits — support amounts and rules differ by State. It is usually the single most important welfare route for a construction worker.
Are electricians and plumbers covered by PM Vishwakarma?
No — electrician and plumber are not among the 18 notified PM Vishwakarma trades in the recorded official source. Mason (Rajmistri) IS a notified trade. Electricians and plumbers should look at BOCW (where their work qualifies), e-Shram, skill routes, PMSBY/PMJJBY and MUDRA/PMEGP instead.
Do I have to pay anyone to apply?
Government portals and National Career Service registration are free. Bank-linked covers (PMSBY, PMJJBY) are enrolled only through your own bank. Never give an OTP, bank PIN or Aadhaar copy to an unverified agent.
