What is an IS code?
An Indian Standard published by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) — the national specification a material or work must meet. CPWD DSR items, tenders and datasheets cite them constantly: IS 456 for RCC, IS 1786 for TMT bars, IS 15622 for ceramic tiles.
How do I check if a code is current?
Search it above. The result shows the current edition year and any withdrawn editions, from the official BIS registry. For the standard text itself, always go to standards.bis.gov.in — NirmanDost never rehosts it.
Are withdrawn editions still valid?
No. When BIS withdraws an edition (IS 15622:2006 → 2017, IS 2911-2:1980 → 2021), specs citing the old year should move to the current one. A surprising share of documents in circulation still cite withdrawn editions — the badges here exist to catch exactly that.
